Step into a hand-carved ice tunnel filled with ice sculptures and archaeological treasures. Along the guided tour in Klimapark 2469, you will learn about prehistoric hunting, climate change, thawing permafrost, melting snowdrifts, and the animals and plants that survive in the mountains.
The trip over the permafrost
The trip on the walkway over Juvflye and the permafrost is approximately 1 kilometer. Here you learn about climate, history, geology and biology in the high mountains. It is approximately 2 kilometers to walk round trip.
The Ice Tunnel in Juvfonne
The highlight of the guided tour is the stunning ice tunnel in Juvfonne. This hand-carved tunnel, with ice sculptures designed by ice artist Peder Istad, draws inspiration from Norse mythology.
In the ice tunnel you will find, among other things, a huge diamond, a fascinating globe, a climate archive, Midgardsormen and a small cinema. The ice has been dated to be 7600 years old, making it the oldest ice recorded on mainland Norway.
Dogs must wait outside. They are not allowed inside the ice tunnel. If you are in a group, you can take turns waiting outside with the dog, but it is best to leave your dog at home.
There are no toilets directly connected to Klimapark 2469, but you can use the toilets at Juvasshytta for a fee.
The weather in the high mountains can change rapidly, it can even snow in July.
We encourage all our visitors to check the weather forecast in advance to ensure a safe trip.
For example, you can search for “Juvasshytta” on www.yr.no.
