About the guided tour
The climate park is situated in Lom, at the foot of Galdhøpiggen in Jotunheimen. Over the Juvflye plateau you will be guided through climate history og several thousands of years of history aboout hunting and trapping, before we take you into the ice tunnel:
60 meters into the ice – 6000 years back in time.
Crossing the Juvflye plateau
The tour starts at the Juvflye plateau, facilitated with a walkway and information boards. Here you get information about climate, wildlife, geology, plants and history.
The ice tunnel
After under 1 kilometer along the walkway we enter the icetunnel in the snowdrift Juvfonne. The tunnel leads into passages and halls, and is designed by the artist and sculptor Peder Istad.
The Kjelbreen glacier
After the visit in the ice tunnel you are free to take a walk along the path to the vantage point where you see the glacier Kjelbreen. The path is partly facilitated with boulders.
Shoes and clothing
The tour through the climate park goes outdoor, 1 800 meters above sea level. Temperature, weather and wind changes quickly. Therefore: Bring hiking boots/ warm shoes, windstopping clothes, cap and gloves.
How to get there
The tour stats at Juvasshytta. Follow the road signs to Juvasshytta from Galdesand along road no. 55 Sognefjellsvegen, 19 km west of the center of Lom. Paved road. Tollroad. From the center of Lom to Juvasshytta it takes app. 45 minutes driving. The ice tunnel is only open if you are on a guided tour.
Facilitations
The guided tour takes app. 2,5 hours. The walk through the climate park to the ice tunnel is under 1 km long along w walkway with information boards. The ice tunnel and the entrance to this is not facilitated. A stair leads into the ice tunnel, and the floor in the tunnel is covered by ice and snow.
